02/08/08 TEAM CHALLENGE BDC Race meeting
Silverstone
After some early rain and a rather slippery practice the track dried out and we enjoyed some good racing. John Waterson in the ex James Crocker car, went off at a cracking start and actually recorded the fastest race lap at 1.25.14 before his condenser broke away and he ended his race after only 3 laps in the gravel. John Boyes, who had had his gear selector to pieces over lunch, was going steadily and was the first Lagonda to finish in 6th place. Alan Brown was next in 9th place driving Nick Hine’s LG 45, Nick having injured himself on his bicycle some days earlier. James Wilmot-Smith, delighted at getting through a whole race for the first time, followed in 15th place 2 seconds ahead of Tim Wadsworth in the 2 litre, who in turn was followed by Robert Lewis still feeling his way in the LeMans V12. Binky. not quite up to her Brands Hatch form, was 20th in the Rapier tourer and bringing up the rear was a gallant Tim Parker lapping steadily around the 2 minute mark in his delightful 2 litre drop head.
Fittingly, as it was a Bentley day, Sue Shoosmith won the handicap in her Bentley 3/4.5 and Bentley 2 won the team race. Aston Martin 1 were second and Bentley 3 third. The only other team to finish intact was Lagonda 1
