13/09/08  TEAM CHALLENGE AMOC Race meeting

Oulton Park

image  At last the sun shone and we had excellent racing conditions. Aston Martin had excelled themselves with 10 entries but were reduced to 6 by the start. We could only manage 5 and then lost Mark Butterworth in his V12 with a head gasket problem after qualifying in third place. The Bentley contingent were even smaller with only 2 entries but both started and finished.
Being near the end of the season the wild boys in the younger AMs, Ferraris, etc were just trying too hard and every race was delayed while the mess was cleared up. Consequently our race was cut to 4 laps. James Baldwin in the very quick AM Le Mans should have been on pole but failed to make it leaving John Waterson in the Rapier to lead away. John seized his chance, kept Peter Dubsky at bay, and came home the winner by 2 seconds. Many congratulations. There was then a long gap before the next Lagonda which should have been James Wilmot-Smith in his Rapier but he had to pull out on lap 2 with no oil pressure, so it was left to Tim Wadsworth 2 litre and Binky Oates Rapier Tourer to bring up the rear.  Christopher Scott Mackirdy was the winner on handicap. AM 2 won the team prize with AM 1 second.
